NTRL 7 Head / Truck Roping May 3-4, 2008 Jacksonville, FL
|
Jacksonville, Florida and the NTRL team up once again for a great weekend of roping
The Jacksonville Equestrian Center was the sight of the National Team Roping League’s Super 7 header, Bonus Roping and Truck Roping for
2008. Although the Super 7 Header was light on teams, it was surely strong on talent. With a chance to rope all 7 steers and 80% of their
money, all 22 teams roped tough to try to get their share of the $8700 payout. With a challenging set of steers, when the final times were turned
in, Stacy Lasseter pocketed most of the money by finishing first with Kenny Sikes with a time of 79.38 on 7 steers and second with Chris Merritt
with a time of 89.03. With 17 different ways to win a check, lots of ropers got a piece of the payout. Be sure and check out the results page to
see how the rest of the field played out.
Although the truck roping entries were light on Saturday, the Bonus Roping was a huge hit. The No Barrier Chute from Priefert used for the first
time by most ropers seemed to bring a certain excitement to the air. With $25,000 in cash and prizes on the line, the 365 teams took their best
shot at amassing enough points to take home one of the two-horse trailers provided by Diamond D. The smiles and the catch-ratios by ropers
was a positive sign that the No Barrier Chute was a shot in the arm for the 8 point ropers. As the roping unfolded, two ropers emerged as the
winners of the Diamond D Horse Trailers. Ronny Marx chose to do it the conventional way by gathering enough points by winning the average
with Shannon O’Quinn to take home the high point heeler trailer. Luther Googe finished 6th and 11th in the average and won a fast go to gain
him enough points for the High Point Header Trailer. With lots of other prizes and cash being distributed to ropers throughout the evening, it is
safe to say that the NTRL Bonus Roping the first weekend in May in Jacksonville is here to stay.
Sunday, the final day of the NTRL Rope for the Truck, saw beautiful weather and lots of teams come to compete for the $75,000 worth of Cash
and Prizes in the truck roping alone. Going to the short round there seemed to be multiple ropers with lots of call backs. As the smoke began to
clear, it looked as if Scott Marks and Jody Heyward had the best opportunities to drive away in the $48,000 Dodge dually diesel truck from Carl
Gregory Dodge. But in the end it was Brent Walden who ended up first and second in the average to combine a total of 195 points to win the
Grand Prize with the following people gathering enough points to win the beautiful Reinsman Saddles, custom made by Dale Martin: Leonard
Poole, Billy Evans, Justin Cooper, Scott Marks and Danny Eagerton.
The NTRL would like to thank all of the ropers that attended, the sponsors that participated and the Jacksonville Equestrian Center for helping
us to pull off a first class event.
